The Lumber we use is #1 Kiln Dried Pressure Treated Southern Yellow Pine, Knotty Cedar and Clear Cedar. The Pine wood has been treated for UV ray protection, decay, and to help with insect damage. The Cedar wood has its own natural compounds in the wood to create its own protection. To keep your Gazebo healthy and strong we do recommend that you apply a Water Sealer or Stain to your Gazebo as soon as you order it and then every 2-4 years depending on the environment to where your Gazebo is located. The Gazebo without a Sealer or Stain will start to turn a silvery gray after prolonged time in the elements; this is what the Sealer will help with so that this process is slow.
When we paint a Gazebo we use 2 coats of primer and then apply 3 coats of paint so that the Gazebo paint does not chip or peel off. Re-Painting a Gazebo is left up to the individual but would not require paint for 5-8 years depending on the location of the Gazebo.
Before re-sealing your Gazebo we suggest that you hose off the Gazebo w/water and then spray 50-50 water and bleach solution all over the Gazebo to lift the dirt off of the wood prior to re-sealing, leave this solution on the Gazebo for approx 20 minutes, this way your Gazebo is clean and ready to receive the sealer and you are not sealing in the grime and dirt.
